Men of Stone will be shot in Carrara and aired on DMAX.
After the first season took place in Alta Versilia, in the Apuan Alps, now it’s time to see Carrara’s quarrymen at work.
The announcement was made a few days ago and was confirmed by the Confindustria President in Massa-Carrara, Matteo Venturi.
The recently concluded season was quite appreciated by the audience, so much that the producers decided to shoot a new one, right in the quarries of our city.
Everyone will finally be able to enjoy on TV the extracting process of the Carrara Marble, one of the most precious marbles in the world.
For those who have not watched the first season yet, it is available for free on Discovery Plus.
When will the shooting begin?
A firm date has not been announced yet, but presumably they should start after the winter. The current weather conditions are not ideal, mainly due to the latest weeks’ snowfalls. Spring is the best period to film the new episodes and, according to the rumors, the shooting will begin when the temperature rises.
What is this series about?
The first season talked about the extraction and the finishing processes of marble for three important projects:
- Versilys Project: about a prestigious commercial building in Hong Kong covered with Versilys marble;
- Qatar Project: it regards the construction of a government building in Doha, using White Altissimo marble;
- Broadway Project: it relates to the utilization of Piastrone and Gray Tundra marbles on the wall and floor coverings of a luxury residential complex in London.

The new season
In this new season, Men of Stone – streaming on DMAX – will mostly address the advanced mining technology of the Carrara’s quarries.
The city is equipped with a state-of-the-art machinery, led by competent professionals, under the supervision of expert geologists and engineers.
This reality series will surely explore this extraordinary art and ability of extracting marble blocks, which dates back thousands of years, since the ancient Rome period.
Here are some statements released by President Venturi regarding the new season (source “Voce Apuana”):
“It is an important production, streaming on a channel with domestic and international visibility. This project will therefore represent an opportunity to simultaneously promote our marble as well as Massa and Carrara cities.”
“It is appreciated that Discovery, after shooting the first season in Alta Versilia, chose this time Massa-Carrara. It is a recognition of our entire community and its multi-centennial bond with marble. It is an attractive publicity for Massa and for Carrara.
I hope it also becomes a way to reconsider marble, miners and companies from up- and downhill areas as a heritage for the whole community.”
“I believe that, when we overcome misunderstandings and prejudices, we set a common goal and we work as a team, we are able to achieve remarkable goals as a territory.”
Venturi wishes that the DMAX series may also become an opportunity to build a new relationship between companies and public institutions, in order to finally consider industries and the labor market – including the marble sector – as a resource for everyone and an asset to invest in, as a community.
